PRACTICE STAFF
Practice Manager
Mrs Anne Banner is the practice manager
and she is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the surgery. She is
happy to hear your views and suggestions about the services offered by the practice.
Reception And Administration
Staff
Our receptionists and administrative
staff are here to help you get the services you need as quickly and conveniently
as possible. You will find them friendly and helpful in what is a most demanding job.
They may need to ask you for medical details in order to help you. All information
you give to them is treated in confidence and they are bound by the same codes
of conduct as the doctors and nurses.
Nurse Practitioner
Sister Carol Pearson is a member
of the practice nursing team who has taken additional training and is able to
treat a variety of minor ailments eg tonsillitis, eczema, ear infections and rashes,
etc. The nurse practitioner offers a complementary source of care to that offered
by the medical practitioners. If you wish to see Sister Pearson instead of a doctor,
please arrange an appointment.
Practice Nurses
We have four practice nurses - Sisters
Sharon Jones, Jill Chance, Lynne Cox and Vicki Smith. They offer
a wide range of services such as taking cervical smears, performing ECGs, dressing
wounds, managing leg ulcers, removing sutures, syringing ears, giving advice on
travel, immunisation, contraception, care and prevention of heart disease etc.
They also work extensively in the more formal surgery clinics eg diabetic, asthma,
family planning, immunisation, well woman and well man. Their surgeries are run daily
by appointment.
We also employ two healthcare assistants, Denise Charlton and Sandy Kane, who perform blood pressure checks, ECGs, urine testing and health checks. Their surgeries are available by appointment only.
Phlebotomist
Our healthcare assistants carry out blood sampling on regular booked appointments Monday to Friday.
District Nurses
We have a team of district nurses
attached to the surgery. They provide a nursing service in the homes of the elderly,
sick and post-operative patients. We also have a Macmillan nursing service in
the district which specialises in the treatment of the terminally ill and their
families.
Nurse Adviser For
The Elderly
Sister Jan Firman takes responsibility
for the general care of our patients over the age of 65. She assesses their physical,
psychological and social wellbeing and refers the patient on to the relevant professional
if she feels this is necessary. You may contact Sister Firman on 876189.
Health Visitors
There are two health visitors attached
to Churchfields Surgery. They visit all families with newborn babies and young
children, monitoring their growth and development and offering practical advice
and support. They are also involved in the immunisation clinic where all the recommended
vaccinations for children are administered.
Counsellor
We have a part-time clinical counsellor
to further support people with emotional or psychological problems. Patients can
only be referred after seeing the doctor.
Physiotherapist
A physiotherapist provides treatment
for a wide range of conditions. Patients need to see the doctor first who will
then make a referral to the physiotherapist if necessary.
Chiropody
Chiropody is provided at the Princess of Wales Hospital. Referral to the
chiropodist can only be made by a member of the Health Care Team.
Dietician
A trained dietician holds a clinic at the Princess of
Wales Hospital. Simple dietary advice (eg weight loss, low cholesterol diet) is
given by our practice nurses. Referrals are made after seeing the doctor.
Community Midwife
A midwife based in the community
attends the surgery once a week to help us care for our antenatal patients. She
is often the same midwife who will attend the patient at home when she has delivered
her baby, so coming for antenatal appointments with her is a good way for both
to become familiar with each other.
Social Worker
We have a social worker attached
to our practice to help with all kinds of social problems for those patients over
the age of 65. Patients under this age requiring such help will be referred to
the local social services office.
General Practitioner
Registrar And Medical Students
Churchfields is an accredited training
practice for both GPs in training (GP registrars) and medical students (attached
to Birmingham University).
Registrars are fully qualified and
have usually completed several years as a junior doctor in hospitals. They are
attached to our practice for 4 to 12 month periods so that they may undergo further
training to gain the necessary skills required for general practice. The registrars
are encouraged to seek advice, when necessary, from the practice partners.
On occasions consultations may be
recorded, solely for teaching purposes, but only with the patient's consent. |
